Mains Fed Water Cooler FAQs

A mains-fed water cooler (also known as a plumbed-in water cooler) is connected directly to your plumbing system.

What this means is that it provides a constant supply of fresh, filtered water directly from your existing mains water supply. This system purifies the tap water through a built-in filtration process before dispensing it chilled, hot, or at room temperature.

No refills, no single-use plastic, no fuss.

Mains-fed water coolers use high-quality carbon or sediment filters to remove chlorine, unpleasant tastes, and odours, resulting in clean drinking water.

These are professionally installed by our team of experts, typically taking around an hour to set up. This process involves linking the water cooler to a nearby cold water pipe, typically located in a kitchen, staff area, or hallway.

Once connected, the water flows from your mains to your water cooler, where it’s filtered so that it’s ready to drink. After filtration, the water enters a cooling reservoir or chilling coil, where it’s refrigerated to bring its temperature down to between 4°C and 12°C.

The water can then be dispensed through the connected taps, providing you with filtered cold or boiling water at the touch of a button.

Our mains-fed water coolers offer numerous benefits, including advanced features like DryGuard™ technology, which prevents leaks or spills by keeping internal components dry between uses.

But sometimes, the best benefits are the simple changes that transform your daily routine. Find out why many businesses are switching from bottled to mains-fed water coolers below:

  • Low running costs: Unlike bottled coolers, which require constant replacement, with delivery costs and refills adding up, mains-fed coolers utilise your existing tap water. So, while the initial price is higher, you’re saving up more in the long run.
  • No bottle storage: Finding a place to store refills can be challenging. With mains-fed coolers, this is a problem of the past. No more heavy lifting and plastic waste!
  • Consistent water supply: Unlike bottled coolers, which eventually run out, mains-fed coolers provide fresh, filtered water 24/7. It’s ideal for large offices or families who use a lot of water.
  • Improved hygiene: With sealed filtration systems and a hermetically sealed reciprocating compressor, the risk of contamination and leaks is minimised. It is ideal for environments such as hospitals and schools, where hygiene is a significant concern.

At Drop Water Coolers, we offer a range of mains-fed coolers, from standing to countertop systems for a space-saving solution.

All feature hot‑water safety locks and their patented “DryGuard™” system to eliminate spills and are available in varying finishes and capacities, including:

  • Glacier: Cold, ambient, and hot water for large offices.
  • Everest: Added on/off switch for hot water and supports the most users (50+)
  • Avalanche: Similar features to Everest, but in a compact design.
  • Mogul: Heavy‑duty model for high‑volume use (up to 30 users).

As a general guideline, it’s best to get your mains-fed water coolers serviced every 6-12 months.

Doing so will help you keep on top of maintenance and spot any issues early before they progress. This includes filter checks and replacement, sanitising internal water paths, and a general health check and descaling.

Yes! In fact, mains-fed water coolers are the most eco-conscious option for home and business owners who want to lower their carbon footprint.

Instead of using single-use plastics, they rely on large-scale UK treatment systems, which are more energy efficient than individual bottled water production.
